Infant and fetal death data have been tabulated by mother’s place of residence for each municipality in the State of New Jersey. Any municipality not listed for a given year had no infant or fetal deaths reported in that year. Rates are also given for municipalities where the number of deaths was large enough (n≥20) to calculate a reliable rate
Infant Death is death within the first year of life.
Neonatal Death is death of an infant within the first 27 days of life.
Postneonatal Death is death of an infant from 28 days to one year of life.
Infant Deaths = neonatal deaths + postneonatal deaths
Fetal Death is death prior to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception; the fetus shows no signs of life such as breathing or beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles. Fetal deaths are also referred to as stillbirths, miscarriages, or abortions. Only spontaneous fetal deaths of 20 or more weeks gestation are reported here.
Perinatal Deaths = fetal deaths of 20 or more weeks gestation + neonatal deaths
