Most of the federal OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910) - General Industry Standards(29 CFR 1926) - Construction Standards and (29 CFR 1928) - Agricultural Standards have been adopted under the New Jersey PEOSH Act. PEOSH Standards for Firefighters( N.J.A.C. 12:100-10) The PEOSH Firefighters Standards were published in the New Jersey Register and became effective on May 3, 2004. The standard applies to matters relating to the organization, training, and personal protective equipment of fire service organizations.
Standard for Indoor Firing Ranges for Public Employees (N.J.A.C. 12:100-8) (File size: Word 40KB)
The Standard for Indoor Firing Ranges for Public Employees was published in the N.J. Register and became effective on July 3, 1989. The standard applies to matters relating to the design, work practices, and ammunition used at existing and new indoor firing ranges operated by public employers. The standard was amended in 1994 and 1998.
PEOSH Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Standard (N.J.A.C. 12:100-13)
The PEOSH Indoor Air Quality standard (N.J.A.C. 12:100-13) (2007) applies to matters relating to indoor air quality in existing buildings occupied by public employees during their regular working hours.Click here to access all related documents and forms.
PEOSH Respiratory Protection Standard The federal OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) has been adopted under the NJ Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health Act. The notice was published in the September 21, 1998 New Jersey Register. The effective date is September 21, 1998 and the operative date is March 21, 1999. Bloodborne
Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and Smallpox Vaccination Programs

This Alert is to inform New Jersey public employers and employees regarding
compliance with the PEOSH Bloodborne Pathogens Standard for healthcare workers
who administer the smallpox vaccine. In order to provide this information,
the PEOSH Program has modified a U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety
and Health Administration (OSHA) document to fit New Jersey’s public
sector.

Filling of Oxygen Cylinders and Aluminum Regulators in High-Pressure Oxygen Systems 
New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Public Employees Occupational
Safety and Health (PEOSH) Program is extending its previous Alert on Self-Contained
Breathing Apparatus Cylinder Failure to Oxygen Cylinders because they can
be made of the same materials, subject to the same high pressure, and refilled
in the same manner. Also a new Alert is being issued because FDA has received
16 reports of aluminum regulators used with oxygen cylinders burning or exploding.
Mandatory Reporting Requirements
Reminds public employers that all job-related employee fatalities or in-patient hospitalizations must be reported immediately to the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Meltable Fabric on Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
Gives information on replacing meltable fabric with non-meltable fabric on SCBAs.
Picric Acid
Provides warning to check science laboratories and chemical storage rooms for any bottles of picric acid. Dry picric acid crystals are highly explosive.

To assist fire departments in complying with the PEOSH Respiratory Protection
Standard requirements, the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, PEOSH
Program and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Office of Public Employees
Safety have updated the Model Fire Department Respiratory Protection Program.
The revised PEOSH Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) was adopted
on September 21, 1998, with a compliance date of March 21, 1999. At the same
time, the PEOSH Standards for Firefighters (N.J.A.C. 12:100-10.10) were amended.
Model Coordinated Worker Protection Emergency Response Plan

Provides a written outline format for an emergency response plan. Although
29 CFR 1910.120 has many provisions, section 1910.120 (q)(2), requires that
each municipality develop a written ERP. The Coordinated Worker Protection
ERP addresses health and safety measures applicable to responders from all
responding departments within a municipality. The appendix addresses internal
health and safety measures for individual departments which are too specific
to be addresses in the Coordinated ERP.

The PEOSH Program has developed this model program to help public employers
understand and comply with the "Requirements for Preventing Occupational Exposure
to Tuberculosis" (TB Requirements) which became effective on July 1, 1997.
Completion of this written program is not required. However, each covered
health facility must have a written protocol for the prompt identification
of individuals with suspected or confirmed infectious TB in order to be in
compliance with the TB Requirements.

Bloodborne
Pathogens Survey Report (PDF File Size 245KB)
The hepatitis B (HB) virus warrants serious concern for workers occupationally
exposed to blood and certain body fluids. An objective of the NJ Department
of Health & Senior Services "Healthy New Jersey 2010" plan
is to increase HB vaccination levels to 100% among public employees who
have a reasonable anticipation of exposure to blood and certain body fluids.
In accordance with the plan, a survey was conducted in order to establish
a baseline indicating how many public employees have been offered the
HB vaccine, and how many have completed the HB vaccine series. This report
provides an analysis of the survey results. The next objective will be
to follow up on the recommendations made in the report.

that a violation of a health or safety standard exists, or that an imminent
danger exists, may request an inspection by completing a PEOSH complaint

Firefighter Poster
