Medications to Prevent or Treat Pandemic Influenza

A vaccine against a pandemic strain of influenza cannot be developed until a pandemic begins.

Once a pandemic begins, scientists are able to identify the exact strain and create a vaccine.

Making a new vaccine will take several months, and supplies will probably be low until more vaccine can be produced

Dr. Taronna Maines, a microbioloist working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, studies the H5N1 virus.
