Hello, I am Doctor Poonam Alaigh, Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health.

I am here to remind everyone Flu Season is here and it’s the time to make sure you receive your annual flu shot.

Flu shots are best way to avoid the flu, they not only protect you, but those around you.

None is immune from the flu – even healthy people are at risk. In fact, thousands of people across the United States die from the flu every year.

This year’s flu shot will protect people from the H1N1 virus, as well as two other strains. I advise everyone over six months of age to get a flu shot. Especially if you are part of a high risk group including - pregnant women, parents of toddlers, older adults and those with chronic health conditions.

The flu is spread from person to person through the air. If you have symptoms that include fever, headache, sore throat, body aches and a prolonged cough, you may have flu.

So be sure see your doctor and stay home when you are sick. By doing your part we as a community can stay healthy. This website will give you additional information and tips to fight the flu. Thank you and stay healthy.
