The Wholesale Food and Cosmetic Project is responsible for licensing and oversees the inspection of firms that produce, prepare, manufacture, store, transport, and handle foods and cosmetics intended for wholesale distribution for compliance with the rules governing these types of establishments (N.J.A.C. 8:21-2.1 et seq.).
This project also maintains a partnership agreement/contract with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct over 400 FDA inspections of food establishments for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices.
When there is evidence of adulteration based on direct observations or a confirmatory laboratory analysis of physical samples collected in the field, this project will authorize the product in question to be detained (embargoed) and/or witness the voluntary destruction of the product in order to protect the public’s health. This project also provides guidance and assistance to local health departments, consumers, and industry representatives in interpreting the rules governing these establishments. |
