Continuing Education Unit

  • Ensures that all local public health professionals attain a minimum level of continuing education annually in accordance with the Public Health Practice Standards of Performance for Local Boards of Health in New Jersey (NJAC 8:52).
  • Builds core and leadership competencies in the local public health workforce via traditional and distance learning.
  • Supports the implementation of Practice Standards workforce development requirements for health officers, registered environmental health specialists, public health nurses, and health educators to complete discipline-specific competency development.
  • Ensures the provision of continuing education through the New Jersey Learning Management Network (NJLMN).

What do the Practice Standards say about the Continuing Education?

8:52-8.4 Workforce continuing education , Chapter 52, requires provision of coordinated program of continuing education for staff which includes attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences, in-service training, and/or formal courses to improve skills and knowledge in accordance with their professional needs.
