Workforce Development Program

This Program promotes public health workforce development and houses projects that advance core and leadership skills and prepare the local public health workforce to address emerging public health concerns.  It solicits, publicizes, and evaluates training programs, and manages the New Jersey Learning Management Network, a sophisticated web-based tool that provides access to discipline-specific and competency-based public health workforce continuing education in accordance with the Public Health Practice Standards of Performance, N.J.A.C. 8:52.

What do the Practice Standards say about the Workforce Standards?

Chapter 8:52-8.3

  • Each position in the local health agency has a written description which include tasks, reporting relationships, and performance standards;
  • Each local board of health shall ensure that public health staff, in addition to requirements for licensure, certification, or authorization, possess or are actively pursuing training for the skills necessary to provide each of the “10 essential public health services” as set forth at N.J.A.C. 8:52-3.2 (a) through 10.
