Alert: Clade I Outbreak Originating in Central Africa
There are ongoing outbreaks of clade I mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and several other countries in Central and Eastern Africa. There have been four travel-associated cases of clade I mpox identified in the United States, with no new clade I mpox cases identified in the United States since February 2025.
There have been no cases of clade I mpox in New Jersey. The current risk to the general population in the United States is low.
Clinicians should immediately report suspect clade I mpox cases to the local health department where the patient resides.
