Media Advisory - Commissioner of Health Mary E. O'Dowd to Tour Monmouth Medical Center/Speak with Resident Physicians

Commissioner Mary O'Dowd will tour Monmouth Medical Center at 2 pm, on Thursday, March 14, with Frank J. Vozos, MD, FACS, President and Chief Executive Officer, and speak to residents at the hospital about their experiences. The Commissioner will tour Monmouth Medical Center's pediatrics unit and the Geriatric Emergency section of the Emergency Department.

Governor Christie's FY 2014 Budget includes a $10 million increase for Graduate Medical Education (GME), bringing total GME funding to $100 million. GME payments help compensate teaching hospitals for costs directly related to resident physicians' education such as resident salaries and benefits, faculty costs and costs associated with administering GME programs.

Monmouth Medical Center will receive $4.4 million in GME funding in FY 2014, an increase of $1.1 million million from the current fiscal year.

The administration's total support for New Jersey's 71 hospitals is nearly $1 billion.  Including $675 million in Charity Care funding that provides a subsidy for care for the uninsured; and $166.6 million for the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payments (DSRP) that is part of the Medicaid Comprehensive Waiver, and is a new incentive-based funding pool that hospitals may apply for later the spring.  The funding formula for the DSRP is still being developed.

Directions:
From Points North and South:
Take the Garden State Parkway (Exit 105), Route 18 (Exit 13B) or Route 35 to Route 36 East.  Stay on Route 36 until you reach Ocean Avenue.  Make a right onto Ocean Avenue and proceed south until you see signs for the hospital and Pavilion Avenue.  Make a right onto Pavilion Avenue, then turn left onto Second Avenue and the Monmouth Medical Center campus is on your right.

From Shore Points:
From Ocean Avenue, make a left onto Pavilion Avenue, then turn left onto Second Avenue and right into Monmouth Medical Center.
