Mark Grebenau, Global Director, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, one of Novartis’ top blood donors

Since I’ve come to Novartis, I would say I’ve given blood or platelets about 100 times. It’s an important thing to give blood, because if I give blood I know that what I am contributing is something which cannot be achieved by any other means. There is no artificial substitute for blood. A person who receives a gift like this, in essence, owes a debt of gratitude to everyone out there, because anyone out there could potentially be the person who saved that person’s life. So, it just builds up gratitude, and as they say, you pass it forward. People who donate blood are the most generous people that exist. And when you’re done, you just feel so wonderful. You know that you have done something which will definitely make a difference in at least one person’s life. And not only in that person’s life, but in the life of his family and the people who love him. Because if you save that person’s life, think of how many other lives you’re touching by saving that one person.
