Specimen Requirements

Container/ Tube: sample collection cups

Type: Stool (preferred), vomitus samples

Volume: Stool: (0.5 g or .5 ml if liquid)

Collection Instructions: N/A

Storage: Keep stool/vomitus specimens refrigerated in their sample collection cups at 2 C to 8 C until testing.

Causes for Rejection: N/A

Interpretation: Samples showing no ct values within 45 cycles (undetected) for both GI and GII are reported negative for Norovirus.

Reference Interval: Negative

Limitations: For suspected high levels of nucleic acid, DNA/RNA template excess may result in a false negative.
