The New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services has an extensive program to train and credential mental health workers and other human services providers, in preparation for disasters such as bioterrorism or other public health emergencies. Substantial progress has been made in this credentialing and certification process in partnership with the Mental Health Association in New Jersey. Successful applicants are approved for a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor certification. All counselors are required to take a standard set of courses for certification and recertification. Additional information regarding this program is located at the NJDRCC website. All training courses sponsored for the credentialing program have been approved for continuing education credits by the National Association of Social Workers for an array of disciplines including social workers, addictions professionals, licensed counselors and family therapists.
