TRENTON — Commissioner Jennifer Velez today announced that Mary Sibley will rejoin state government from private industry as a Deputy Commissioner of Human Services. Sibley, who has extensive experience in public policy, will oversee the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services (DMAHS) and the Division of Disability Services (DDS).
DMAHS administers Medicaid, the state and federally funded program, with an annual budget of $5.4 billion. Medicaid serves more than 1 million New Jerseyans, including those in the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and NJ FamilyCare. DDS serves people who have become disabled as adults either by illness or injury.
“I'm delighted to be back with state government, contributing to a mission of service to more than 1 million residents,” said Sibley.
A nurse by training with a Masters in Business Administration, Sibley has extensive experience in health care on both the policy and operational side. She served for several years as the CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island, NY, and in 2000 was a member of Bill Bradley's Presidential campaign as a health policy advisor.
She was a faculty member at both Seton Hall's and NYU's Schools of Nursing before joining the Administration in 2002. In 2004, she returned to the private sector, heading the public policy department for Roche, a global pharmaceutical company with US headquarters in Nutley, NJ.
“Mary has shown throughout her career that the challenges of health care delivery and policy strategies are her passion,” said Commissioner Velez. “We're eager to tap into her insight.”
A New Jersey native, Sibley graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and received a Master in Business Administration from The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth University. She lives in Montclair, NJ, with her two children, Stephen, 13, and Isabelle, 12.
