Notice of Extension of Chapter Expiration Date
Weighmasters; Weights and Measures
Take notice that the Superintendent of Weights and Measures has proposed the readoption with amendments of the rules in N.J.A.C. 13:47E governing the determination of gross, tare and net weights of vehicles. The proposal was published in the December 4, 2006 New Jersey Register at 38 N.J.R. 4988(a). The rules at N.J.A.C. 13:47E are due to expire on December 28, 2006, as provided in N.J.S.A. 52:14B-5.1 and N.J.A.C. 1:30-6.4(f). The adoption process cannot be completed before the scheduled expiration date.
The rules specify how a vehicle is to be weighed to determine its gross and tare weight for commercial purposes and for certification by a Weighmaster. Weighmasters enforce the State and Federal vehicle weight laws. Enforcement of these laws is necessary for the State to qualify for Federal highway funds.
The Superintendent of Weights and Measures has requested an extension of the expiration date for the rules. Accordingly, pursuant to the authority granted to him by N.J.S.A. 52:14B-5.1d, on December 11, 2006, Governor Jon S. Corzine directed that the rules in N.J.A.C. 13:47E continue in effect beyond December 28, 2006 for a period of 180 days, making the new expiration date June 26, 2007.
