Licensing:

1. How do I reinstate my license?
   A completed Application for Reinstatement must be sent to the Board’s office along with:
   
   a. Payment of all past delinquent renewal fees;
   
   b. Payment of a reinstatement fee;
   
   c. An affidavit of employment listing every job held during the period your license or certificate was suspended which provides the name, address and telephone number of every employer; and
   
   d. If applicable, satisfactory proof that the applicant has maintained proficiency by completing the continuing education hours or credits required for the renewal of an active license or certificate.

   A professional planner’s license shall be issued for a period of two years and must be renewed biennially.

   A planner-in-training certificate is valid for 10 years.

1. How often are the professional examinations offered? A. The professional examinations are given over a two-week period each during the months of May and November.
   
   


2. What are the examination requirements to become a professional planner? A. Except as provided below, an applicant for licensure as a professional planner shall obtain a passing grade on both the national and State parts of the professional planner’s examination. An applicant who is licensed in New Jersey as a professional engineer, architect, landscape architect or land surveyor, is exempt from taking the national part of the examination and is only required to take the State part of the examination.

4. What are the examination requirements to become a planner-in-training? A. An applicant for a certification as a planner-in-training must be of good moral character, present proof of having obtained a degree in an approved course in planning of four years or more from an accredited school or college and show proof of having received a passing grade on the State examination. As an alternative, an applicant may present a detailed record of four years or more of active practice in planing work and proof of having obtained a passing grade on the State examination.
   
   


5. As a planner-in-training, how do I upgrade to become a professional planner? A. A planner-in-training may be upgraded to a professional planner by submitting to the Board:
   
   a. An upgrade form demonstrating the required work experience; or
   
   b. Transcripts verifying that the planner-in-training has completed the required educational experience.
