New Jersey State Officials and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network Launch Nation's Largest Youth Vote Initiative
More than 1,000 Perth Amboy High School Students and 800,000 Students Statewide to Launch New Jersey's "BE POWERFUL, BE HEARD" Youth Vote Initiative.

WHO:
New Jersey Attorney General Peter C. Harvey, Commissioner of the NJ, Department of Education Dr. William Librera, Secretary of State Regena Thomas, Perth Amboy Mayor Joseph Vas, Perth Amboy Superintendent of Schools John M. Rodecker and Perth Amboy High School Principal, Administrators and students will be joined by Russell Simmons, Chairman of HSAN, Dr. Benjamin Chavis, President/CEO of HSAN, Reverend Run, hip-hop stars Jim Jones and Juelz Santana of the Diplomats.

WHAT:
The official launch of New Jersey's "Be Powerful, Be Heard" youth voter initiative. New Jersey becomes the first state to utilize hip-hop culture through the public school system to motivate young people about the importance of voting. More than 1,000 Perth Amboy High School Students will be joined by more than 800,000 New Jersey public school students (via web streaming) for a pep rally to launch the state's first spoken word competition for voting. Students will be eligible by creating a spoken word poem about the importance of voting and will be judged via statewide competitions in May and September. The winner will be announced at a New Jersey Hip-Hop Summit in September.

  3. Take the RT-184 exit towards AMBOY AVE - go 0.5 miles
  4. Continue on PFEIFFER BLVD - go 0.1 miles
  5. Turn Right on AMBOY AVE - go 0.2 miles
  6. Turn Left on EAGLE AVE - go 0.3 miles
  7. Arrive at 310 EAGLE AVE, PERTH AMBOY, on the Left.

Directions From Parkway South

  1. Take the US-9 exit- exit number 129- toward RT-440/WOODBRIDGE/I-287/PERTH AMBOY. 0.78 miles
  2. Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp. 0.11 miles
  3. Keep RIGHT at the fork in the ramp. 0.19 miles
  4. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto CR-501/KING GEORGES RD. Continue to follow KING GEORGES RD. 0.16 miles
  5. KING GEORGES RD becomes NJ-184. 0.99 miles
  6. Turn SLIGHT LEFT to take the ramp toward AMBOY AVE. 0.34 miles
  7. Stay straight to go onto PFEIFFER BLVD. 0.08 miles
  8. Turn RIGHT onto CR-653/AMBOY AVE. 0.24 miles
  9. Turn LEFT onto EAGLE AVE. 0.32 miles

Directions From Parkway North

  1. Take the RT-9 N/RT-440 exit- exit number 127- toward I-287/WOODBRIDGE/STATEN ISLAND. 0.14 miles
  2. Take the RT-440 S/INDUSTRIAL AVE ramp toward I-287 N. 0.12 miles
  3. Take the RT-440 N ramp toward STATEN ISL. 0.43 miles
