STATE POLICE ARREST MAN, RESCUE TWO-YEAR-OLD AFTER GUNPOINT ABDUCTION

Camden, NJ - Detectives assigned to the Camden Anti-Crime Partnership (CAP), which includes the State Police, Camden County Prosecutor's Office, Camden County Sheriff's Department, the Delaware River Port Authority Police, and the Camden Police Department, arrested Angel Manuel Rivera, age 26, of West Palm Beach, Florida, who was wanted for the abduction of his two year old daughter in Saddle Brook, Bergen County. The abduction triggered activation of the state's Amber Alert system for the second time since its inception.

On Friday, March 7, at 9:13 a.m., Merari Vega, 19, called Saddle Brook Police reporting that Rivera had kidnapped her daughter, Angela Rivera, at gunpoint from the Holiday Inn on Kenny Place. Police quickly learned that Rivera's car became disabled in a snow bank in the hotel parking lot and that he then carjacked a gray 2000 Daewoo on Kenny Place.

State Police detectives and agents from the FBI, working with the Saddle Brook Police Department, were able to track Rivera to a residence in the 3000 block of Clinton Avenue in Camden. Detectives from the Camden Anti-Crime Partnership were notified and detectives set up a surveillance on that location. At approximately 11:20 AM, Rivera exited the residence and as detectives approached him, he began to run. Rivera was apprehended after a short foot chase. Detectives entered the home and found daughter Angela Rivera, safe and unharmed. She was taken to West Jersey Hospital in Camden for examination and released.

Angel Rivera was taken to Cooper Hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained while being arrested. He was admitted in stable condition, pending his transfer to the Camden County Jail.

The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Saddle Brook Police Department, NJ State Police, FBI, and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and other local, county and state agencies.
