THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.
1.
VETERANS DAY IS CELEBRATED ON MONDAY, 11 NOVEMBER 2002.
In 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the
eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated. After
four years of bitter war, the Allied powers signed a cease-fire
agreement (an armistice) with Germany at Rethondes, France
on November 11, 1918, bringing World War I to a close.
Armistice Day was celebrated annually until 1954 when
the United States designated November 11th as Veterans
Day to honor veterans of all US wars. In 1971, President
Nixon declared it a federal holiday to be celebrated on
the second Monday in November.
2.
VETERANS DAY SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, 11 NOVEMBER,
AT THE BRIGADIER GENERAL WILLIAM C. DOYLE VETERANS MEMORIAL
CEMETERY. The BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial
Cemetery Advisory Council will conduct Veterans Day services
on Monday, November 11th. There will be three 15-minute
services at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. Following the
1 p.m. service, the Adjutant General will present a check
on behalf of the New Jersey National Guard to the Cemetery
Advisory Council. The donation will be used to purchase
stone pavers, which will memorialize loved ones. The pavers
will be placed in front of the National Guard Monument
planned for the Memorial Walkway.
3. MEMBERS OF THE FISCAL DIVISION
VISITED TROOPS AT THE SALEM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
to establish state contracts with vendors for the welfare
of the troops, and to get a better understanding of the
State Active Duty mission that is being performed. Members
of the Fiscal Division delegation received a tour of the
area of operations, and observed members of the New Jersey
National Guard in HUMMVs conducing roving patrols over
hundreds of acres of 20 foot reed grass and rough terrain.
4.
NEW ARMY FIELD MANUAL, FM 7-0 “TRAINING THE FORCE”
WAS APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE ARMY
on 21 October 2002. This new document replaces FM 25-100
and differs from the earlier field manual in that it combines
training and leadership development into one program,
establishes the linkage to joint, multinational, and interagency
operations, and synchronizes Army Training doctrine with
the full spectrum of Army operations. FM 7-0 will be followed
soon by the publication of FM 7-1, “Battle Focused
Training,” which updates FM 25-101 of the same name.
FM 7-0 is the capstone, overarching Army training doctrine,
while FM 7-1 deals with the specifics of “how to”
train. FM 7-0 can be located on the RCAS network on server,
nj-34256-svr3, POTO, FM 7-0 folder.
5.
VETERANS MEMORIAL HOME RESIDENTS ATTENDED A CONCERT AT
THE TRENTON WAR MEMORIAL. Residents from the
three Memorial Homes enjoyed an evening concert at the
Trenton War Memorial Building featuring Ray Charles. The
New Jersey Lottery Commission provided the tickets to
the residents.
6.
GOLDEN CORRAL MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT FOR ALL VETERANS,
ACTIVE DUTY, RESERVE, AND NATIONAL GUARD PERSONNEL.
Guidance from the Navy’s Deputy Council for Ethics,
states applicable individuals are authorized to partake
in this generous Veterans’ Day offer from Golden
Corral. Golden Corral restaurants will be offering a free
dine-in dinner buffet to all veterans, active duty, reserve,
and national guard personnel on Veterans’ Day, November
11th, from 5-9 p.m. As this discount is available to all
military personnel, it is excluded from the definition
of a gift pursuant to 5 CFR 2635.203(b)(4).
7.
NJ ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR WOMEN VETERANS ACCEPTED THE
DESIGN OF THE BASE OF THE WOMEN’S MONUMENT AT THE
BRIGADIER GENERAL WILLIAM C. DOYLE VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY.
This committee has worked for years trying to raise the
funds for this tribute to women of all branches of service.
The top portion of the monument should be completed in
the spring of 2003.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a
lone amateur built the Ark.
A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
