DETAILS:

COL Dennis J. Dougherty is the Chief of Staff, New Jersey Army National Guard. After completing four years in the US Army, COL Dougherty has served in the NJ Army National Guard for 23 years. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the New Jersey Medal of Honor. He also teaches history in Clark. He currently resides in Westfield with his wife Nancy and two sons Sean and Timothy.

The Friends of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will also be awarding two $500 college scholarships during the ceremony. The recipients of these scholarships are Gina Prospero of Secaucus and Venus Banks of Newark.

Friends of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will also be inducting two veterans into their In Memory Program. The In Memory honors those who served in Vietnam and returned home only to die as a result of their tour, but whose names are not on the Memorial. The two inductees are: US Army Spec-4 Leonard F. Reidmiller, III of Parlin and US Army Sgt. James McCoy of South Plainfield and Barnegat.

The Vietnam Era Educational Center, adjacent to the Memorial, is presenting through July 31 the exhibit Vietnam Memories – How Families Remember. This exhibit of memorabilia highlights the various ways family members remember and honor their Vietnam Veteran.

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial is open 24 hours, 7 days. The Educational Center is regularly open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM. Admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Regular adult admission is $4.00, student and senior citizen admission is $2.00, and children under 10 are admitted free.
