TROA to Give $1,000 Scholarship Grants

The Retired Officers Association (TROA) is giving $1,000 scholarship grants to dependent children of guard, reserve, and active-duty personnel for the 2001-2002 school year.

To be eligible, a student must be under the age of 24, working on a first undergraduate degree, and be a dependent child of a service person - enlisted, warrant officer, or officer. Application is by the worldwide web only. To apply, go to http://www.troa.org. Look for the "Scholarships" on the opening web site page and follow the instructions. Deadline is midnight, March 1, 2001. Winners will be notified in May.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 
The Retired Officer's Association (TROA) will award 100 grants of $1,000 each for the 2001-2002 school year.

ELIGIBILITY:
An applicant must be the DEPENDENT CHILD of an ACTIVE DUTY member or DRILLING Reserve/National Guard member, officer or enlisted, of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, United States Public Health Service (USPHS), or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOM).

An applicant must be a high school senior or college student working on his or her first undergraduate degree, and under the age of 24.

An applicant must be planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall of 2001.

SELECTION:
Selections will be made solely on the basis of merit: Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership. An applicant's uniformed-service sponsor does not have to be a member of TROA.

APPLICATION:
Applications will only be taken ON LINE (there are no paper applications). Go to TROA's website: http://www.troa.org . The website opening page has the word "Scholarship" in left margin. Click there to view the all the information and instructions an applicant will need to proceed. DEADLINE for on-line entry is March 1, 2001, midnight—NO EXCEPTIONS.

If chosen as a semi-finalist in late March, the applicant must send a certified transcript and verification of SAT (or ACT) scores and a copy of the sponsoring parent's recent "Leave and Earnings Statement" to: TROA, Scholarship 200, 201 N. Washington St., Alexandria. VA 22314-2311
