DETAILS: COL Leonard Luzky, a retired Dover Township police detective,
currently works for the Toms River Board of Education and is an Adjunct
Professor at Ocean County College. In the New Jersey Army National Guard
(NJANG), COL Luzky is the Chief of Civilian Personnel.
COL Luzky was born in Germany of Russian parents and came to the United
States in 1950. He was raised in Patterson and enlisted in the US Army
in June 1963. He served from 1964 to 1966 with the 173rd Airborne
Brigade, the first American Army combat unit in Vietnam. In 1977, COL Luzky
was commissioned to 1st lieutenant in the NJANG and earned his
master degree in human resources management from Pepperdine University.
His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the New Jersey
Distinguished Service Medal, Parachute Badge with star, Combat Infantry
Badge and Parachute Rigger Badge. He currently resides in Toms River with
his wife Michele, stepdaughter Alayna and stepson Garrett.
Friends of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will also be inducting
two veterans into the "In Memory" Program. "In Memory" honors those who
served in Vietnam and returned home only to die as a result of their tour,
but whose names are not on the Memorial. The two inductees are: John Fuccello,
Jr., US Army, of Trenton, who died October 19, 1998 and Salvatore Anthony
LaRosa, US Marine Corps, of Jersey City, who died March 25, 1996.
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial is open 24 hours, 7 days.
The Educational Center is regularly open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM
- 4 PM. Admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel.
Regular adult admission is $4.00, student and senior citizen admission
is $2.00, and children under 10 are admitted free.
