AUTHOR RICK YOUNG TO LECTURE AT VIETNAM ERA ED CENTER
On Thursday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m., the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation will host a lecture by Rick Young, author of Combat Police: U.S. Army Military Police in Vietnam at the Vietnam Era Educational Center in Holmdel.
Rick Young served as a Combat Military Policeman during the Vietnam War. Combat Police: U.S. Army Military Police in Vietnam details the Military Police organization and operations in the Vietnam War and brings recognition to over 30,000 men who served as Combat Military Policeman or with Military Police commands. Young demonstrates how, in a guerilla war with no frontlines, military policemen were often thrust into situations where they had to be combat soldiers first and policemen second.
The Vietnam Era Educational Center, which opened in September 1998, will also be presenting the exhibit "Cops in ‘Nam – U.S. Military Police in Southeast Asia" from June 1 to 30. The exhibit will spotlight military law enforcement of the Armed Forces in Vietnam. Anyone wishing to contribute items for this exhibit should contact Katie Jones, Collections Manager, at 732-335-0033.
The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located adjacent
to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial on Memorial Lane at exit of
the Garden State Parkway exit 116 (for the PNC Bank Arts Center). The Educational
Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM. Admission is free
for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Regular adult admission
is $4.00, student, senior citizen admission is $2.00, and children under
10 are admitted free.
