LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The 2nd Battalion, 102nd Armor was in the process of being called to active duty to help provide security at the World Trade Center site in New York City, however, the Adjutant General of New York has withdrawn the request for assitance from the New Jersey National Guard. A 5:30 pm call from Major General Thomas Maguire, NY Adjutant General, to Major General Paul J. Glazar, Adjutant General of New Jersey, cancelled the earlier request for troops. Glazar said, “New York has reexamined its missions and staffing and
has been able to find enough resources in their own units.” He also added
that , “General Maguire asked that the NJ Guard be ready to provide similar
support, if needed, in the future. He thanked us for all of the time and
effort that went into preparing for this mission.” Although standing
down from this latest mobilization, the 2-102 Armor will continue to have
more than 40 soldiers involved in the security mission at Newark Airport.
For more information about this operation or other missions being performed
by the New Jersey Army or Air National Guard, please contact Colonel John
