McGuire Air Force Base, N.J. – On Saturday and Sunday, Air Guard members of the 108th Air Refueling Wing’s Security Forces (SFS) and Civil Engineering Squadrons (CES), here, headed overseas in support of the Air Expeditionary Force. Thirteen members of the SFS headed to Curacao, an island in the Antilles, Netherlands, set to return on May 19. While in Curacao, SFS airmen will provide security for the aircraft stationed there. According to Security Forces Manager, Chief Master Sgt. David W. Obetz, these aircraft are part of an ongoing counter-drug initiative, called Constant Vigil. At the same time, these Air Guard members will also get a chance to work with their active-duty counterparts. By participating in missions of this scope and importance, the Air Guard contributes to the Total Force effort while meeting the demands of its federal and state missions. The other 108th ARW squadron to deploy, the CES, sent nine members to
Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, Al Dhafra, United Arab Emirates,
and Al Jaber and Ali Al Salem, Kuwait, in support of Operation Southern
Watch. Southern Watch enforces the “no-fly” zone over the Iraqi-Kuwaiti
border.
Upcoming deployments include one to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, for both SFS and CES, from May 12-25, where they will be supporting Operation Northern Watch.
