On August 17, 2001, the 108th Air Refueling
Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard will deploy their KC-135 air
refueling tanker aircraft, air crews, and maintenance and support personnel
from McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, to Turkey to support Operation
Northern Watch.
Operation Northern Watch is the northern no-fly zone over Iraq and is part of the coalition mission among the United States, United Kingdom and Turkey. During the six-week deployment, the 108th ARW will support combat missions with aerial refueling. More than 300 personnel from the wing will participate in the deployment. The wing routinely deploys its people around the world to perform military missions. They have been deployed to Saudi Arabia helping to enforce the southern no-fly zone over Iraq and have also been deployed to Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Kuwait, Japan, Korea and Panama.
