WEST TRENTON, NJ - The last AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter Training Flight in New Jersey will be on Tuesday 11 September 2001 (Rain date is 12 Sept) from Trenton-Mercer Airport in West Trenton. Three AH-1 attack helicopters will be conducting a training mission in the tactical training area between Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station and Warren Grove Air National Guard Range. We are inviting interested media to cover this final training flight including filming from an accompanying UH-1 or UH-60 helicopter. Press would have to call COL John Dwyer no later than Friday, 7 September to be included in this flight. The initial mission briefing would be at the NJ Army National Guard Aviation Facility on Scotch Road, West Trenton, at 9:00 AM with the flight immediately following. New Jersey’s Cobra Attack Helicopters will also be making one final flight to Fort Drum, NY on 19 September (rain date 20 September) where they will be scrapped. A flight of eight (8) AH-1’s will depart Trenton-Mercer Airport, join with 12 additional AH-1’s from Tennessee, fly-by the Statue of Liberty and West Point, then continue to Fort Drum. There is a possibility of several additional helicopters from other states joining the flight -–with as many as 26 helicopters making the last trip together. Departure from Trenton-Mercer airport is scheduled at 9:00 AM on the 19th. Media wishing to accompany the flight in an UH-1 or UH-60 helicopter should contact COL Dwyer no later than 14 September to be included on the flight.
