Groundbreaking Ceremony for the South Jersey Veterans Monument

WHAT: Groundbreaking Ceremony for the South Jersey Veterans Monument 

WHEN: Friday, October 26, 2000 at 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Garden State Parkway, Ocean View Parkway Service Plaza, milepost 18

DETAILS: The monument will honor past, present and future veterans of all branches of the military.  The monument will consist of an arbor planted with red, white and blue flowering perennials and annuals.  In the center of the arbor will be a charcoal gray granite star with service crests of each of the branches at the star’s points.  At the center of the star will be a flag pole flying the United States, New Jersey and POW/MIA flags.  On either sides of the arbor will be benches facing the center star.  Beyond the arbor will be five shorter flag poles flying each service flag.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include an unveiling of a South Jersey Veterans Monument plans. A 3-D, to scale, model will be on hand.

The landscape architect is Anthony Beliaeff who works for the Garden State Parkway Authority.  The Parkway Authority will also be completing the construction.

 Funding for the monument was secured in the budget by Senator Jim Cafiero and Assemblymen Jack Gibson and Nick Asselta.  $50,000 was allocated for the monument.
