Sea Girt, NJ - The New Jersey National Guard will sponsor a drill competition for 14 Junior ROTC programs from New Jersey High Schools on Saturday, May 12th at the National Guard Training Center at Sea Girt. The event is FREE and open to the public. The high school students will compete in a number of events, highlighted by unit close order drill competition. Judging will be by Drill Sergeants from the 98th Division of the U.S. Army Reserve. Junior ROTC Cadets will also have the opportunity to compete in an Army physical fitness test and a biathalon during the day. This is the eighth year the National Guard has sponsored the event. Schools participating in the competition are:
8:00 – 8:45 Arrival and RegistrationThis Junior ROTC competition is named after Brigadier General George J. Blysak, a retired National Guard officer who sponsored the first competitions and is a high school science teacher in civilian life. It is one of the largest Junior ROTC competition held in New Jersey and is recognized by most participating schools as the N.J. State championships for military drill. The National Guard Training Center will open at 7:30 a.m. for visitors. Plenty of parking is available on-site. The drill instructors (drill sergeants) that will judge the event are from Company E, 3rd Battalion, 417th Infantry; part of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 98th Training Division. They normally train U.S. Army soldiers in basic training, and are uniquely qualified to test the cadets in military drill. For further information about the event, please contact Captain
