GUARD / RESERVE EMPLOYERS HONORED
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - Brigadier General (Retired) Robert S. Dutko,
Sr., State Chairman of the Employer Support the Guard and Reserve Committee
will honor several employers with the prestigious Seven Seals Award for
their outstanding support of National Guard and Reserve employees mobilized
for state and federal service following the terrorist attacks against the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The presentations will be made on Friday morning, November 16, 2001
at 9:00 am at the final business session of the New Jersey State League
of Municipalities Convention in the Pearl Ballroom, 2nd level of the Sheraton
Convention Center Hotel in Atlantic City.
The honorees include Berkeley Township, Egg Harbor Township, Margate
City, Pleasantville City, The New Jersey State Parole Board, and the State
League of Municipalities. More than 2,000 citizen-soldiers from Army and
Air National Guard units and other reserve organizations have been activated
for either state or federal active duty service since September 11th. With
the activation of the 177th Fighter Wing headquartered at the Atlantic
City International Airport as well as the mobilization of Military Police
and Security Air Police personnel from both Mc Guire Air Force Base and
Fort Dix, a number of New Jersey employers were particularly hard hit.
The Seven Seals award represents the seven military organizations which
comprise the reserve component: Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Marine
Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and
Coast Guard Reserve. It is presented to those individuals or organizations
who have demonstrated outstanding support for the members of the Reserve
Component. Recipients must be nominated by employees currently active in
the Guard or Reserve.
ESGR was formed in 1972 as part of a nationwide effort to establish
a close working relationship between civilian employers and their employees
actively serving in the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR is a Department
of Defense chartered organization under the aegis of the Assistant Secretary
of Defense for Reserve Affairs. One of its key responsibilities is to inform
America's business community as well as the general public about the critical
role provided by the National Guard and Reserve in the "Total Force" national
defense mission.
More than half of America's total combat capability is contained in
National Guard and reserve units. Approximately 2,000 of the estimated
25,000 men and women serving in various reserve units throughout the Garden
State have been activated to support state emergency operations or national
security missions. National Guard troops currently are providing increased
levels of security at nuclear facilities, airports, bridges, and tunnels.
