National Guard to Hold Officer Call at War Memorial

TRENTON, NJ - More than 1000 officers of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard will meet at the War Memorial in Trenton on Saturday, March 17, to hear the future plans for the Guard from the senior leaders of the organization. The “Officer Call” is a rare opportunity for The Adjutant General of New Jersey, Major General Paul J. Glazar, to communicate directly to every officer under his command – from the most junior lieutenant, to the most senior general.  The event will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

The agenda for the officer call includes the vision for the future of the National Guard, current initiatives and operations, current and planned deployments, training highlights and opportunities, a benefits briefing, and an open question and answer period for members to address their questions and concerns. Joining General Glazar on stage will be Major General Richard Cosgrave, Commander of the New Jersey Air National Guard, and Rear Admiral Timothy Beard, Commander of the New Jersey Naval Militia.

Major General Glazar said: “The New Jersey National Guard is a dynamic organization, that is currently deployed worldwide in support of national military strategy and peacekeeping operations. With units located throughout the state, it is difficult to ensure that all members are kept up-to-date on changes in policies, benefits, and operations. This gives us the opportunity to all get on the same sheet of music and move in a common direction.”

New benefits being discussed include the recently approved increase in tuition benefits for National Guard members, which allows Guard personnel to attend any state college or university free, including graduate education. Current operations for the N.J. Guard include deployments to Italy, Honduras, California, and France. Upcoming operations include a deployment of N.J. soldiers to Bosnia.

The press is invited to attend but should call the phone number above to confirm their attendance.
