The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (NJDMAVA) is proud to have been part of the effort to bring the ship back to her home state. NJDMAVA had the responsibility of bringing the battleship from Bremerton, Washington, to the Philadelphia Naval Yard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1999. When she was docked at the Naval Yard, the ship then reverted to the ownership of the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Navy then awarded the ship to the Home Port Alliance, Camden, New Jersey, for renovations and upkeep. NJDMAVA no longer has any responsibility for the battleship. The battleship was moved to her permanent mooring on the Delaware River on September 23. The USS New Jersey opened to the public on October 15. Tours are available in October on a first-come, first-served basis, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., seven days a week. In November, timed tours will be available and tickets will be on sale for these tours starting November 1. Call the Home Port Alliance or visit their Web site for more information on ticket sales. According to reports, tickets cost $10 for adults, $7 for children younger than 12, senior citizens and veterans with identification. Active military personnel in uniform are admitted for free. Parking is at Lot 1 of the Tweeter Center and costs $6. The battleship is available for booking for special events. If you are interested, call the offices of the Home Port Alliance.
