NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial to host Veterans Day Ceremony

HOLMDEL, NJ - The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial will host New Jersey’s Veterans Day Ceremony 2001 on Sunday, November 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m.  The N.J. Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial is located on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ (Garden State Parkway exit 116.)  The Veterans Day Ceremony will include the induction of six New Jersey Vietnam veterans into the “In Memory” Program and the dedication of the Women Veterans Meditation Garden.

“In Memory” Program
Friends of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will induct six veterans into the “In Memory” Program, which honors those who served in Vietnam and returned home only to die as a result of their tour, but whose names are not on the Memorial.  The six inductees are:

Sheldon Mark Klink, US Air Force, of Piscataway, who died October 7, 1974
James Nuiman Vanness, Jr., US Air Force, of Fairfield, who died July 19, 1997
Harry J. Bohr, Jr., US Navy, of Pt. Pleasant Beach, who died October 5, 2000
Guy W. Chamberlain, US Army, of Beachwood, who died May 8, 1995
Thomas W. Sunchuk, US Army, of Toms River, who died November 25, 1998
Bruce E. Woodward, US Marine Corps, of Deptford, who died April 7, 2001.

As a part of the ceremony, one family member of each of the veterans will give a short memorial about their loved one and how his service changed the family.

Women Veterans Meditation Garden Dedication
The Women Veterans Meditation Garden will be a lasting tribute to the thousands of women who served our country during the Vietnam Era.  It also provides a quiet place for friends and family to reflect on the loss of their loved one, whose name is engraved on the 366 black granite panels of the Memorial. The garden was built and planted by the New Jersey Highway Authority with funds provided by the New Jersey Legislature.  A ground breaking ceremony was held after this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony, May 7.

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial is open 24 hours, 7 days.  The Educational Center is regularly open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM.  Admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel.  Regular adult admission is $4.00, student and senior citizen admission is $2.00, and children under 10 are admitted free.
