VIETNAM ERA EDUCATIONAL CENTER HOSTS 
AN ORAL-HISTORY DISCUSSION


Holmdel, NJ - On Saturday, January 19, at 1:00 p.m., the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation will host an oral-history discussion featuring Vietnam veteran medical personnel entitled, “The Doc in ‘Nam: American Medics in the Vietnam War.”  The program will be held at the Vietnam Era Educational Center in Holmdel.

It has been said that 82 percent of those Americans were injured during Vietnam survived … due to the “Docs,” medics in the field as well as those at evacuation hospitals.  Several men will share their personal stories and answer audience questions in this two-hour program conducted in the Educational Center’s “Testimony Theater.”

Participants include Don Johansen of Holmdel, a combat medic in the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division, 1965-66; Mike Toomey of Red Bank, a combat medic with the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade, 1969-72; James Credle of Newark, a combat medic in the U.S. Army’s 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, 1966-67; and Carey Spearman of Staten Island, a clinic and evacuation hospital X-ray technician in the U.S. Army’s 44th Medical Group, 1967-68.

Lecture attendees are asked to RSVP one week prior to the event to (732) 335-0033.  A donation of $5.00 per person is suggested.  The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116.  The Educational Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 4 PM.  Regular admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel.  Regular adult admission is $4.00; student and senior citizen admission is $2.00; and children under 10 are admitted free.
