Spring Lake, N.J. - Colonel Kenneth F. Wondrack of the New Jersey National Guard will be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on Saturday, March 24, during the National Guard Senior Leadership Conference at the Breakers in Spring Lake, N.J. Major General Paul J. Glazar, the Adjutant General of New Jersey, will pin Wondrack’s stars on at 10 a.m. Wondrack serves as the Commander of 42nd Division Troops in New Jersey, and his promotion to brigadier general was confirmed by the New Jersey Senate and the Governor in February 2001. He is a retired New Jersey State Police Captain. Colonel Wondrack started his career in 1963 as a private in the United States Marine Corps where he served in combat operations in the Republic of Vietnam with the Ninth Marine Regiment. After a brief interruption in service to finish college, he enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard with the 5th Squadron, 117th Cavalry in Westfield. Following his commissioning through the New Jersey Military Academy, Wondrack served in various command and staff positions in the 5-117th Cavalry, the 50th Armored Division staff, and with the 1st Battalion 102nd Armor. He served as the Commander of 5-117th Cavalry for three years. Prior to his current assignment, Wondrack served as the Commander of the 254th Training Regiment at Sea Girt and later as the Chief of Military Support for the New Jersey National Guard. In that role he served as liaison between military and civilian authorities and was responsible for overseeing emergency operations for civil disorders or natural disasters. Colonel Wondrack is a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York . Militarily he has completed the N.J. State OCS program and the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses at Fort Knox, Ky. He also successfully attended the Command and General Staff College, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and he is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa. Among his awards are the Marine Combat Action Award, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. Wondrack makes his home in Wall Township, New Jersey with his wife, Jane. He has four adult children; Mark, Melissa, Sean, and Sarah and two grandchildren; Dan and Lindsey.
