SPRINT to the Rescue
Lawrenceville,
NJ - On Thursday September 12, 2002 Jim Robinson and
Glenn Lewis, Public Affairs Managers for SPRINT showed their support and
appreciation for the New Jersey National Guardsmen involved in Homeland
Security missions. They left their offices in Clinton (Hunterdon
County) and Newton (Sussex County) respectively and traveled to Lawrenceville
to visit the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Their mission, to deliver free long distance calling cards to be used by
members of the New Jersey National Guard placed on alert on the first anniversary
of the September 11th terrorist attacks against the World Trade Centers
and the Pentagon. As had happened before in the 12 months since that
tragic day, the citizen-soldiers were called upon to serve as a rapid response
force ready to react to any emergencies or threats to public safety.
This was not the first time the two SPRINT managers had gone out of their way to support New Jersey’s citizen-soldiers. In recent years they made similar donations of calling cards for troops participating in the NATO Peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Kosovo. As an added bonus, SPRINT also provided calling cards for use by the family members left back home as well. SPRINT has been a regular sponsor of various National Guard Association activities which benefit their scholarship programs and in September of 2000, SPRINT was a major corporate sponsor of the 122nd Annual Conference of the National Guard Association of the United States which brought more than 6,000 Guard Association members to Atlantic City. Both Robinson and Lewis are actively involved with the
New Jersey Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, an organization
which operates under the aegis of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for
Reserve Affairs and is dedicated to fostering a close working relationship
between New Jersey’s employer / business community and the 20,000 National
Guardmembers and Reservists serving in units throughout the state.
