New Jersey National Guard Participates In Closing Ceremony

What: Closing Ceremony at Freshkills Landfill Site

When: Today, 9:30 AM

Where: Fresh Kills Landfill, Staten Island, N.Y.

Directions: From I-95 The NJ Turnpike take the RT-440 EAST exit #10 towards PERTH AMBOY/STATEN ISLAND. Merge on RT-440. Continue towards KOREAN WAR VETS PKWY NORTH/RICHMOND AVE, exit #2, Bear Right on DRUMGOOLE RD West. Turn Right on ARTHUR KILL RD.

Details: The New Jersey National Guard supported “Task Force Respect” at the Fresh Kills Landfill, Staten Island, N.Y. The Guard provided a base camp and life support for the FBI and other law enforcement personnel working at the site. In addition, the Guard supported the site with mobile kitchen trailers, cooks, water medical teams, mechanics, refrigerated trailers, tents, generators, lights and other equipment as needed. The New Jersey National Guard also had chaplains at the camp for 24-hour religious/spiritual activities and pastoral counseling. New Jersey Guardsmen also provided a 24-hour guard force at the Homeport housing area on Staten Island where law enforcement workers stayed since the beginning of the emergency.
