Army Guard Gets New Command Sergeant Major
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- Richard S. Adkins, Jr. of Willingboro
was selected by Brig. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, The Adjutant General of New
Jersey to serve as the Command Sergeant Major of the New Jersey Army National
Guard. The veteran of more than 33 years of military service was called
out of retirement to fill this prestigious and important assignment.
Adkins, who first entered the New Jersey National Guard
in July, 1968 has served in both field artillery and maintenance units
and will be the most senior enlisted person in the 7,400 member New Jersey
Army National Guard.
He has successfully completed Senior NCO leadership courses
and spent the bulk of his military career with the 4/112th Field Artillery,
New Jersey Army National Guard. He previously served as motor sergeant,
first sergeant and operations sergeant. His military awards include: the
Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal,
New Jersey Commendation Medal and the New Jersey State Service Award.
In civilian life the Command Sergeant Major is a driver
for the Adkins and Bailey Racing Team. This four-member competition team
has a 1969 Ford big block Mustang that runs in quarter-mile races in East
Coast events sponsored by the National Hot Rod Association
Adkins and his wife, Deanna, have four children: Tanya,
Anthony, Ricshawn, and Desiree; a daughter-in-law, Sarah; and three grandchildren:
Shaun, Anhil, and Seth. |
