ChalleNGe Cadets Get New Leadership
FORT DIX, NJ- During a special pinning ceremony on
Friday morning May 10, 2002 at the New Jersey National Guard ChalleNGe
Youth program headquarters at Fort Dix, NJ, Colonel Maria Morgan, Deputy
Adjutant General of New Jersey pinned the rank insignia on 7 cadets reflecting
their selection as Squad Leaders, 3 as Platoon Sergeants, and one as First
Sergeant.
Brian Henderson was selected as Cadet First Sergeant;
Hasan Carroll was named ALPHA Platoon Sergeant; Raymond Mahood as
BRAVO Platoon Sergeant; and the CHARLIE Platoon Sergeant was Tiffany
Jones. ALPHA Squad Leaders are Sean Guzy, Eric Bolorin,
Frank Cavalieri, and Richie Phoeung; BRAVO Squad Leaders are Jario
Martinez, Mark Ford, Robens Vilcant, and Christopher Smith; CHARLIE Squad
Leaders are Sandra Arvelo, Kimberly Carbone, and Tara Olsen.
The pinning's took place during a Cadet Battalion formation
with a number of proud parents and cadre looking on.
The ChalleNGe program strives to instill positive values
in Cadets through a rigorous academic program, physical fitness, military-like
discipline, community service, job training, and the use of role models.
The New Jersey National Guard ChalleNGe Youth Program
is a 22-week residential course that offers High School dropouts a second
chance. Cadets must be 15-18 years of age, a resident of New Jersey,
drug free, and not currently involved in the criminal justice system (probation
or parole.)
