Memorial Day Ceremony 


Who: 1,000 New Jersey Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies

What: Placing flags on graves of New Jersey veterans for Memorial Day

When: Friday, May 24, 2002 at 5:00 p.m.

Where: Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery A final place of honor for those who honorably served. 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown. 

Directions: From I-195 take exit 16 towards Six Flags. Travel on County Highway 537 (Monmouth Road) South-West for 9 miles. Turn right onto Provinceline Road. The cemetery entrance is on the left within the first mile. 

Details: More than 1,000 Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies from troops across New Jersey will be decorating the graves for Memorial Day at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Scouts will begin arriving at 4:00 p.m. and start placing a flag on each grave at 5:00 p.m. After the more than 25,000 graves are decorated, the scouts will enjoy a cook-out style dinner. This community service will be commemorated with a scouting patch.On Memorial Day 1986 Governor Thomas H. Kean dedicated the 234 acres near Arneytown -- New Jersey’s first state-operated veterans cemetery -- “as a lasting memorial to those men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country’s honor and freedom.” The cemetery was named in honor of BG William C. Doyle on January 3, 1989. Since its opening, more than 25000 veterans or their eligible family members have been interred.
