Governor thanks National Guard Troops for Homeland Security Missions
at Appreciation Dinner
Governor James E. McGreevey, as part
of his Celebrate New Jersey program, will attend an appreciation dinner,
on 24 July 2002 at 5 p.m., for members of the New Jersey Army and Air
National Guard at the New Jersey National Guard Consolidated Headquarters
at Ft..Dix, New Jersey.
The New Jersey National Guard has been
deployed around the world and throughout New Jersey since the September
11th attacks on America.
New Jersey National Guard personnel have
participated in operations overseas in Afghanistan, Oman, Germany, Cuba,
and numerous other countries.
New Jersey National Guard personnel participated
in and continue to participate in operations throughout America and New
Jersey. These operations include:
- Rescue and Recovery Operational Support
at the World Trade Center, Fresh Kills Landfill and other locations
throughout New Jersey
- Combat Air Patrols over America’s
cities
- Anthrax protection operations
- Security Operations at Newark International,
Atlantic City and Trenton-Mercer airports
- Protection of bridges and tunnels
into New York City
- Security of New Jersey’s nuclear
power plants
A troops who participated in these operations
will participate in the dinner and be awarded the Department of Military
and Veterans Affairs Certificate of Appreciation.
Due to restricted access at Ft. Dix, media
interested in covering this event must contact LTC Dennis Devery by 10am
on 24 July to obtain authorization for entrance to Ft. Dix and the New
Jersey National Guard Headquarters. |
