National Guard to Hold 21st
Annual Military Review
The annual military review reflects the rich tradition of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard and includes representatives of every Guard unit serving within the Garden State. The days activities will feature the pomp and pageantry of troops passing in review, flying their unit colors, led by the pounding drums and blaring brass instruments of the 63rd Army Band. A 19-gun artillery salute will serve as the official greeting for the Commander-in-Chief. Helicopter and jet fly-overs, a wide variety of static equipment displays and museum exhibits round out the assortment of featured events. Brigadier General Thomas Sullivan, Assistant Adjutant General (Army) will serve as this year’s “Commander of Troops.” The ceremony also will include the presentation of a number of prestigious military awards to selected members of the National Guard. (Complete list attached) The parade of troops will include soldiers from the New Jersey Army National Guard’s 50th Brigade headquartered at Fort Dix; 57th Troop Command, headquartered in Atlantic City; 42nd DISCOM (Division Support Command) headquartered in Somerset; HQ STARC (Headquarters State Area Command), headquartered in Lawrenceville; and the 254th Regiment and New Jersey Military Academy, both headquartered in Sea Girt. They will be joined by Air National Guardsmen from Headquarters, New Jersey Air National Guard and the 108th Air Refueling Wing headquartered at McGuire Air Force Base; and the 177th Fighter Wing, headquartered at Atlantic City International Airport all in full, battle dress uniform. Invited guests include other members of the Governor’s cabinet, elected officials from municipal, county, state, and federal government; Commanders of the state’s 5 active duty military installations; senior representatives of the state’s major Reserve Component commands; representatives of the state’s major veterans organizations; family members of National Guardsmen; business and civic leaders; and retired members of the National Guard. The public is invited. Bleacher seating (first come-first served) is available on the parade field. Those wishing to bring lawn chairs or blankets may do so. Only non-alcoholic refreshments are permitted on the grounds of the Training Center. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled. - more - 2002 MILITARY REVIEW HONOREES
