Hamburg Resident Takes Charge of National Guard Unit at Dover ArmoryHamburg resident, Capt. Chad R. Thiemann took command of Company B, 50th Main Support Battalion, New Jersey Army National Guard, at the National Guard armory in Dover, from Capt. Alan S. Mellen on June 22. Capt. Thiemann joined the New Jersey Army National Guard in January 2002 after spending six years in the Army on active duty. During duties in Virginia, Kansas and Georgia, Thiemann also served tours in Haiti and Bosnia. Since joining the NJARNG, he has served as the support operations transportation officer at Headquarters, 50th Main Support Battalion, Teaneck. A graduate of Toms River High School North and Boston College, Capt. Thiemann works fulltime as an auditor at Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals in Madison. His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, New Jersey Commendation Medal and New Jersey State Service Medal. Thiemann and his wife Lorenda have a daughter, Caroline. Company B is the trucking company of the 50th Main Support Battalion. The members of the company are responsible for moving equipment around the state and the country. Recent moves have included moving trucks to Jersey City in support of Operation Noble Eagle, a water truck to a festival in Allentown and seven M109 Howitzers for the 3-112th Field Artillery to their annual training at Fort Drum, N.Y.
