Air Guard Units Honored by State
Senate
The resolutions, introduced by State Senator Peter Inverso (R-14), himself a former member of the 108th Air Refueling Wing, and signed by Senate Co-Presidents Richard J. Codey (D-27) and John O. Bennett (R-12), recognize the outstanding service and invaluable contributions made by the citizen-soldiers of the New Jersey Air National Guard in the months following the terror attacks against America. Since September 11th, crews and KC –135 Strato-tanker aircraft from the 108th Air Refueling Wing headquartered at McGuire Air Force Base, have been providing around the clock, in-flight refueling to aircraft from the US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and Allied Air Forces involved in both “Operation Enduring Freedom”, the global war against terrorism, and “Operation Noble Eagle”, the Homeland Security missions ongoing here in the United States. Personnel and air crews of the 177th Fighter Wing stationed at Atlantic City International Airport were placed on active duty in the hours immediately following the first attack against the World Trade Centers. The F-16 Fighting Falcons have flown and continue to fly a record number of sorties providing CAP (Combat Air Patrols) in the skies over the Northeast quadrant of North America to include New York City and Washington, D.C. The 108th is under the Command of Colonel Craig Widen. The 177th is under the command of Colonel Michael J. Cosby. |
