NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial to host Veterans Day Ceremony

DETAILS: The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial will host a Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. The NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial is located on the grounds of the PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel, NJ (Garden State Parkway exit 116.) The Veterans Day Ceremony will include the induction of three New Jersey Vietnam Veterans into the “In Memory” Program.

“In Memory” Program

Friends of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial will induct three veterans into the “In Memory” Program, which honors those who served in Vietnam and returned home only to die as a result of their tour, but whose names are not on the Memorial. The three inductees are: 

James E. Powell, US Army, of Toms River, who died May 24, 2001
Donald J. Autera Jr., US Marine Corps, of Cranford, who died March 17, 2002
Raymond J. Schmid, US Army, of Mt. Laurel, who died January 1, 1994
As part of the ceremony, family members will say a few words about their loved one and light a candle in their memory.

The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116. The Memorial and Educational Center are maintained through a partnership between the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Educational Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Regular admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel. Regular adult admission is $4.00; student and senior citizen admission is $2.00; and children under 10 are admitted free.
