‘Old Glory Wing' Celebrates

1st Anniversary

On Tuesday morning April 12, 2005 at 10:30 am, staff, residents, and family members will gather at the Old Glory Wing at the Menlo Park Veterans' Memorial Home in Edison to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of the opening of the state-of-the-art addition to the veterans' residential care facility that provides special care to veterans suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia.

At the official dedication a year ago, Joseph Brandspiegel, facility CEO said that the opening of “Old Glory” was a great moment for our state's veterans and represented a step in the right direction towards better serving our state's 650,000 veterans.  He went on to state that the high quality special care center was what veterans had earned by virtue of their selfless, patriotic service and that he and his staff were extremely proud and honored to provide these additional services to the veterans who so bravely served both state and nation.

The “new” Menlo Park Veterans Home facility was completed several years ago to replace the antiquated, 100 year-old “Old Soldier's Home”.  The “Old Glory” Wing remained unopened primarily due to a shortage of qualified nurses.  That situation was resolved in April of 2004.

“Old Glory” provides 40 beds for veterans or eligible family members suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia in a highly secure, ultra-modern, fully staffed, fully equipped, dedicated wing.  There currently are several vacancies.  Veterans or their eligible family members may apply for admission by calling the Menlo Park Veterans Memorial Home admissions office at (732) 452-4272.
