Since the first mission left McGuire Air Force Base for Naval Air Station New Orleans on Friday morning, New Jersey Army and Air National Guard members have consolidated and flown 26 flights of approximately 37,400 cases, which equates to 127,721 gallons of bottled water down to New Orleans.
Currently, hundreds of additional pallets of water already collected are positioned at McGuire Air Force Base, ready to be transported to the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. Flights are scheduled on a daily basis and will continue as warranted. Each flight can hold up to six pallets or 1,200 cases of water. It is estimated that missions will be flown to New Orleans, Louisiana and Gulfport, Mississippi through the end of the week in order to transport the water already collected from armories throughout the state. |
