Colon received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving as the Military Pay Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge during his deployment to Iraq in support of the Global War on Terror.  The 50th Finance Battalion, which recently completed a yearlong deployment at Camp Anaconda near the northern Iraqi city of Balad, was instrumental in creating and maintaining the first Central Funding Facility in Iraq, which held more than $400 million and was responsible for paying military and civilian personnel throughout Iraq.  Colon is a Browns Mills native and graduate of Manchester High School in Manchester, N.J. He served 14 years in the military prior to receiving this award.  The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by heroism, meritorious achievement of meritorious service.
