New Jersey National Guard Response To Storm Flooding

TRENTON , NJ – The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs announced that National Guard troops have been mobilized in response to the severe storm flooding in parts of the state.  New Jersey National Guardsmen were called up yesterday and most were ordered to report to armories throughout New Jersey in anticipation of deployment to effected areas.

The National Guard has High Water Vehicles – 2½- and 5-ton transports – suitable for missions through flooded terrain.  The New Jersey National Guard's Joint Operations Center has tasked missions ranging from evacuations to transporting police and emergency personnel through flood waters.  So far, locations have included Bound Brook, Hackensack, Manville, Lumberton, Fairfield, Totowa and Cumberland County.

The Adjutant General for the State of New Jersey, Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth stated that, “The New Jersey Army and Air National Guard and its Citizen Soldiers are fully prepared to respond at the direction of the Governor to fulfill any mission requests during this State of Emergency.”

More National Guard personnel and vehicles are being pre-positioned in key locations as part of a ramp-up in anticipation of future missions in response to further rising waters.
