Vietnam Era
Educational Center Hosts
Author Lecture And Book Signing
On
Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m., the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial
Foundation will host a lecture, slide show and book signing by author
David Chananie, Ph.D., about his award winning book, Not Yet At Ease:
Photographs of America's Continuing Engagement with the Vietnam War.
This program will be held at the Vietnam Era Educational Center in Holmdel,
N.J.
Dr. David Chananie of Rockville, Md., tested new weapons systems and technologies
for the U.S. Army and then spent twenty years as a government research
analyst. He has published photos and articles in both art-related and
the general press. He created Not Yet At Ease to help America come
to grips with the many faces of the Vietnam war-and, as he explains, to
serve as a channel for his own lingering anger over Vietnam, a generation's
loss of trust in its government, and his admiration for the men and women
who served.
Not Yet At Ease, a Writer's Digest award winner for non-fiction,
is a photo collection and narrative that uses photojournalism to present
the war from many different perspectives with an emphasis on emotional
content. The photos, many taken from the National Archives, include rare
shots, both candid and posed, of the Viet Cong; pictures of My Lai on
the day of the massacre; personal photos of the troops who served in Vietnam;
and the author's own photos of the antiwar protests and the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial in Washington.
Lecture attendees are asked to RSVP to (732) 335-0033. A donation of $5
per person is suggested. The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located
adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial off the Garden State
Parkway at exit 116. The Memorial and Educational Center are maintained
through a partnership between the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial
Foundation and the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
