Additional Guard Units Mobilized
Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, The Adjutant General of New Jersey, announced today the mobilization of additional New Jersey Army Guard units for extended active duty service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. “Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery located at the National Guard Armory in Morristown and Battery C, 3rd Battalion 112th Field Artillery located at the National Guard Armory in Tom's River will report to their home stations on Oct. 7 and Oct. 31 respectively to begin mobilization training.”
Unlike their fellow 3-112th soldiers currently serving in Iraq, this group is scheduled to deploy to the European Theater of Operations.
The two units will provide a total of 250 troops for active duty service. These citizen-soldiers will undergo specialized training converting them from field artillerymen to MP's (military police).
Following three days of home station activity, the units will deploy to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for mobilization training prior to departing for Europe.
The 3-112th is under the command of Lt. Col. Robert Schofield.
Both the Morristown and Tom's River Armories are home to National Guard Family Assistance Centers that were established to provide support and assistance to the families of mobilized and deployed citizen-soldiers.
A media availability will be scheduled during home station activity.
Details will be announced in the near future. |
